The internet is bursting with love for your Zeldas, your Final Fantasies, and your Super Marios, but what about those games that slipped by the wayside back in the day? What about the underrated classics that no one else seems to remember?

This thread is for those games that were all but forgotten, lost in time and destined to only be remembered by a select few. If you have a game from back in the day that you believe everyone should play, let us know and give us your elevator pitch on why it's worth our time in 2018.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Back in the age of couch co-ops, there was nothing better than sitting with a friend and shooting at zombies and other undead critters while trying your best to save all the neighbors in each level. Got pretty hard as the game went on, but it was full of so much humor you almost didn't mind. Great fun!

I've been playing loads of Super Mario World romhacks. I feel people who think SMW is easy should try to play what I've been playing.

One game from the 1980's that I played religiously was "Aquatron", the Apple II version, man does the video below bring back memories! Good and bad, getting blown up after trying forever usually resulted in me slamming the table and yelling out some profanity. Good times!!! Seriously, this game was awesome and had things like a day night sequence way back.

Secret of Evermore on the SNES. That’s one of those games I rented multiple times before finally buying it. I still remember the TV commercials with a female voice singing the game’s name throughout. And in the days before internet walkthroughs, it’s the only game I ever had to call the Nintendo Power hotline for game walkthrough help. It was a pretty awesome early 90s RPG that teenage me really got into, and adult me would (and have) ROM again. A boy, his dog, different time periods, the dog changes into a time period appropriate dog, good times ensue.

Clonk. Yes, that's it's name. There's multiple games in the series. Think Terraria but much older and with a fuckton more gameplay variety.

It's incredible to think about the gems that have slipped under the radar in the world of retro gaming, especially since it's been three years since this thread started. The classics like Zelda and Mario will forever hold a special place, but there are those underrated treasures waiting to be uncovered.
One such game is "EarthBound" – a quirky, charming RPG with a unique sense of humor. Its offbeat style and engaging storyline make it a must-play for any gaming enthusiast, even in 2021.
By the way, if you're open to exploring new twists on classic games, you might want to check out solitaire cash reviews. It offers a modern take on a timeless card game and could be a delightful addition to your retro gaming collection.

Hey, great topic! If you're into hidden gems, you gotta try "Chrono Trigger." It's this old-school treasure that doesn't get enough love. The time-travel storyline, tons of endings, and an epic soundtrack—it's a must-play, even in 2018.

"Beyond Good & Evil," a game from 2003, is a hidden treasure that not many people know about but is definitely worth playing. It's an adventure game set in a future world, focusing on Jade, a photographer who discovers a big secret threatening her planet.

The game is really engaging because it mixes different types of gameplay like sneaking around, solving puzzles, and fighting enemies. It stands out because of its interesting story and different-looking world.

Even though it was praised by critics, it didn't sell a lot when it first came out. Over time, more people have started to love it for its story and the way it plays, which is different from other games.

If you like games with great stories and fun playing styles, you'll probably enjoy "Beyond Good & Evil." It's a game that shows off how creative and deep video games can be. It's like a classic book or movie that's still great to experience even years after it was first released.

Absolutely! One hidden gem worth revisiting is "Chrono Cross." Its intricate storyline, unique battle system, and unforgettable soundtrack make it a standout underrated classic. The depth of its characters and the butterfly effect of choices offer a gaming experience that lingers long after you've played. A must-try for any retro game enthusiast!
